Working with G4S was a good overall experience with not a lot of good oversight or advancement opportunities. the Security work part was in line with my experience; however was not utilized to what I could do and was based of what they needed done.
I was a field investigator working 12 days straight and only 2 days off. The amount of risk, wear and tear of the vehicle,fatigue and lack of social life/self management time was at its peak. The management is racist and lacks respect towards others. They will treat you like a dog, even though you are trying your best,putting your life on the line. I was almost attacked by racist individuals while doing surveillance. I was in an accident but they did not even care or reimburse me anything. I would only be paid 75 dollars every 2 weeks for car allowance yet I would put thousands of mileage in my car within days. Horrible place to work. Management does not care about you. Only 16 dollars an hour for all that stress?Let it be.
As a surveillance Investigator, you work 12 day shifts Tuesday - Saturday. You are assigned cases typically 2 hours away from your residence. You will update both your case manager and the client directly. Whether you're driving or attempting a discreet door knock, if management calls you, you better pick up or you will be disciplined through multiple harassing phone calls or emails. When travelling, if you're not staying at the cheapest motel's with dark alleys, dog carcass, tire tread on burst stomach, blood stains, insects, lot lizards or drug deals, you will get in trouble. If you lose a claimant, you need to report it to your case manager, manager and your regional manager. They will all contact you to harass you. Your only days off will not feel like a day off as you will continue to receive calls and emails. As a surveillance Investigator, you will never be comfortable at this job. Typical day: wake up at 3:50 AM, leave at 4:00 AM, arrive at 6:00 AM, update at 10:00 AM, get yelled at for no reason, depart at 2:00 PM, home at 5:00 PM, complete report and all online work at 6:00 PM but claim only 30 minutes because you'll get in trouble if you tell the truth. In your 12 day shifts, expect to only have 2 hours of freedom daily before you fall asleep stressing out if your report was prefect in every way. If anyone ever sues for harassment, count me in. I was threatened that I would not receive my pay if I quit on the sport. G4S is a good company to work for. You have minimal supervision but supervisors are readily available. You have incentives for working hard. You also have the ability to promote. It's also great working with professionals that have a wealth of knowledge in this field.
I worked for G4S as a Private Investigator for a year. Once you get a hang of their backward case management system it is not that hard to keep up. Everything is time based, you have to get your work in before 7am the next day otherwise you will be trouble. You will spend a lot of time driving only to work 4 hour days. If you accept the pay rate like I did do not expect to get any bonus or pay increase, allegedly all employee pay was frozen. I can live with most of the small issues that all companies have and some of the people that work with G4S are very good people stuck in a bad spot. But the lack of work is the main problem, The one thing that is not negotiable is not being able to pay my bills. Not being able to fix my car, and replace an aging computer. A company like this will keep you under their foot, right above the poverty line.

LOts of work in the insurance investigation field. Sometimes over-demanding case managers, but overall, the case managers were good to work for. I learned how to conduct subrosa interviews. I worked for three managers while employed for G4S. Each manager was accessible and helpful.
What I have been able to learn from this company is how to properly utilize deductive reasoning skills to in order to conduct investigations. The hardest part of the job is the initial learning curve when it came to surveillance. Management has been very helpful in helping me adjust to this curve. The most enjoyable part of the job is the freedom field investigators are given.
A typical day is not typical in any way. We have no idea when we will be scheduled and can be scheduled up until 6:00 P.M. the night before. While a day may be listed as 8 hours long, it can be cut in half if there is no activity or it can extend to an unspecified time if there is too much activity. Work isn't done when the day is over because we then have to drive home, occasionally 2-5 hour travel, and then write a report of said activity. My direct Manager is ok but others are not easy to talk to, they can be very condescending. The Case Managers are also condescending and treat us all like peons. The 2 local coworkers that I know, are ok but outside of them, I don't interact with any other coworkers. The hardest part of the job is balancing what you are legally and ethically allowed to do with what clients and case managers are pushing you to do.
This is a great job for self-motivated individuals. The support from headquarters in North Carolina is wonderful. I gave a low score for upward mobility ONLY because you would have to relocate to N.C. I love this company. The only reason why I'm leaving is because of health reasons. The only problem is it IS time consuming leaving not much time for a social life.
Most days start at 4 AM and you drive up to 100 miles to get to your days assignment by 6 AM. Then surveillance of insurance claimant's activities, including following them to work, around town and doctor's appointments. After surveillance detailed reports are submitted and video is processed. Not much room for growth, good people who treat you well at all levels within the company. Hardest part of the job is sitting in a car for 10-12 hours a day no matter how hot it is. Low pay but overtime adds up

I never knew when I was going to work a case next and when they finally told me it was usually the day before so I could never make plans with people. The initial training was helpful in identifying fraudulent activity but other than that to me it was not useful. The case managers were usually cranky and didn't seem to care about you because they are sitting in a cushy office in another state. If you're willing to travel a lot and all the time over 3 hours away then the job is perfect for you but I never got to be in my home for more than three days a week. Some weeks you may work 10 hours and then other weeks you work 13 straight days and finally get the day off. One of the best part of the job was the fellow investigators; they were all really nice and they felt your pain. The company also gives you a credit card for gas so your tank is always full and they give you a monthly allowance for your vehicle, phone, and computer usages.

Current employee seeking to provide an honest list of information to anyone thinking about this position. This is a GOOD job, it's a job. Training is great, in field or on the job training can be limited, learn alot by just doing it. No career advancement unless one of the above managers leave and you are highly qualified, or if you are highly qualified and want to move to Raleigh NC to work in an office, which is a really nice environment/w friendly people. You work solely alone and human interaction in your work life is virtually non exhistant and limited to minutes a day phone calls. Neighbors call the cops on you while conducting surveillance. Some people like to harass you and think you are up to no good in the community. You have to lie to claimants when you call them on the phone and pretend your someone else, also required to lie to their neighbors to get info from them on your guy. The company provides you with good reliable information to get the job done. It's best to have window tint on your vehicle, which the company gives you most money for, but you get pulled over by the cops because of it. If your full-time, you don't really work steady full-time days because a lot of clients have a protocol to break off if nothing is going on, happens a lot. And work slows down in the winter time. You get paid min wage for everything unless you are sitting on a case. You sit ALOT in a car and cant get out cause the whole neighborhood is watching you.
